This past Wednesday I had my ankle replacement surgery. We spent the night in the hospital because the surgery was in the afternoon and I didn’t wake up until about 7 pm. That was a rough night, not because of any pain, but because of the line of nurses and technicians who came in and out each hour throughout the night. Everyone of them asked me my name and my birthdate. At one point when the umpteenth nurse asked me for that information, I actually got angry at her and asked her, “Why?”. Good thing my wife was there to show me a “look” that said I was being complaining.
The pain was taken care of with a “block” in the rear of my knee – and the hangover of the anesthesia. The doctors said that it would last up to three days but the first night at home it all of a sudden wore off in about an hour and the pain went from a 1 to an 8. That lasted for a few hours until the hydrocodone kicked in. That night was restful. The past few days the pain has been under control (I’m now on Tylenol) and I have been using my knee scooter to get around the condo. We actually went to the park today and walked for about half a mile. That was nice.
We also have had some friends come over and visit us. Two former Air Force retirees and their wives came over at the same time and had an interesting conversation about the work that they did back then. One of them heads up our Bible study group called the “Misfits” and the other one heads up a SS class. The latter one and I meet each week for breakfast, for the past three years. We always have great discussions about what God is doing in our lives – and what He is not doing.
In the next few days, on Friday, we meet with the surgeon that did the operation and he will assess how my ankle is doing. I’m moving my toes alright and I’ve got a PT who is coming about three times a week. He has given me several exercises to do each day for my legs and my right ankle. A home healthcare nurse came over on the second day to see how I was doing. She asked me all the questions that they asked me in the hospital. 😦 🤨
So, everything seems to be going well. God is so good. He knows what I need and is providing well. The surgery went remarkably well. They didn’t have to move and of my leg bones or foot bones to align them to the operation, and after the operation one of the surgeons came in and was very excited about what went on during the surgery. Very positive results from the Master (and the surgeons who God was controlling). Overall, I am pleased with the bucket of grace from God. In all this He has been faithful and merciful and I am grateful.
